Feature Friday

image

We had a busy little week that began last Saturday at the Harlem Haberdashery Masquerade Ball over at the Harlem Stage—another fantastic venue. It was so much fun to see such creative attire and feel such a good vibe. Later on in the week we found ourselves in various locations all over the country for a number of holiday bashes and great causes.

Check out what we’ve got in store for you this week…

Featured Venue: The Top of the Standard

image

Why haven’t we mentioned this before, like oh, I don’t know, when it wasn’t freezing temps outside? Well, that’s because you can enjoy these spectacular views of NYC (especially the High Line and the Hudson) year-round. The High Line Room on the third floor features an adjacent 3100 square-foot covered terrace, sound system and two private bathrooms.

It’s 18 floors up that blew us away at our event this week for Mission Capital Advisors. The Boom Boom Room (we totally LOVE the name!) is one of the most coveted event spaces in Manhattan, offering impeccable service and the layout itself will definitely create buzz.

image

If you can’t decide on which space would be best for your next event, head down to check out the venue in the Meatpacking District—take it from us, the view itself will WOW your guests or clients.

Get more info here.

Featured #EventProf: Wilson Marshall NYC

         image

Style is everywhere—from the design of her events to the spare flats she carries for her feet, Kimberly Wilson Marshall - Founder + Director of Wilson Marshall - has worked in various venues here in NYC and also straight across the country in California. Since 1999 she has performed various public relations and special events planning services for various for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, including everything from children’s birthday parties to galas.

Check out her impressive list of media outlets that have featured various publications she has worked on. Some of her clients include African Health Now and Making Books Sing, and we must say that we enjoyed working at her latest event for Harlem Haberdashery.

You’ll be sure to be inspired by her energy and love for vibrant colors: take a look at her Pinterest boards!

Featured (Small Biz) Sweet: The Grocer’s Daughter

image

We love what this small, family-owned business is all about—especially their hand-dipped chocolate truffles. All the way from the shores of Lake Michigan, fruits, edible flowers and herbs from their garden or local farms are packaged in compostable bags and recyclable/recycled materials. They also carry handmade cards from recycled materials by Paperworks Studio, but personalize a handwritten note for special occasions.

They also organize trips to learn more about the wonders of chocolate and include tiny springs of aromatic lavender to accompany your little chocolate treasures.

Eco-friendly AND delicious? We dig it.

Sustainable events are on the rise, so talk with them here to find a way to incorporate something delicious—and trendy—into your next event.

Feature Friday

image

We said it, and now it’s almost here—-yeah, we’re talking about Thanksgiving. We got a little addicted side-tracked in our Instagramming and mistakenly thought these were donuts (they’re #DIY mini-pumpkins, in case you were curious). If any of you sweet treateries do, in fact, make pumpkin spice glittery goodness—we’re on 42nd and 6th.

What can we say? We’re suckers for sparkly…and sweet. Don’t judge, it’s the holiday season!

Featured Venue: Top of the Garden

image

Have you planned your holiday event yet? Well hop to it, the countdown to 2014 is on, and you’re going to get some pretty amazing views from here. Product launches, romantic weddings, intimate birthday gatherings—you name it, they’ll create it. If you’re looking at something a little more formal, this venue holds up to 80 guests for a sit-down dinner (with room to get your dance on), or you can do a nice-sized cocktail party for about 150 people.

Featured #EventProf: Alimay Events & Productions

Their love for DIY inspired us (and made us take detour to our local bakery), and our Pinterest boards are loading up with all sorts of great tips and ideas for professionals in the events industry. This NYC-based duo has 15+ years of experience in event services, including publishing, media, retail, and personal affairs, making each event truly unique. Modernly-elegant, elegantly modern.

Don’t just stop at the donuts pumpkins—check out some of their gorgeous images and highlights from past and current projects here.

Featured Tablescape: Thanksgiving/Fall

        image

We’re seriously all about Pinterest this week, especially after this cool new mapping feature. The whole painted/glittery/not-your-average-orange pumpkins as part of the decor is pretty different, and certainly a trend we’d love to incorporate in our own events.

Are you preparing for an event next week or having an intimate Thanksgiving at home? We’d love to see how your tablescape turns out…connect with us!

Feature Friday

What happens when some of the world’s most influential “changemakers” come together? They make a difference. We were honored to be at the door of such an event this week for the Lower East Side Girls Club Grand Opening Gala, along with the Top Model herself, Tyra Banks, and other greats Rosario Dawson, Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler.

image

Guests checked-in and according to color received a bracelet to assign their seating for the dinner portion of the evening. The night was a huge success—take a look.

Onto our #FeatureFriday faves for the week!

Featured Venue: 404

image

The folks at 404 NYC encourage the originality and creativity from #eventprofs to bring out the uniqueness of the space. A custom-made built-in bar makes it the perfect place to host a cocktail party of up to 500 guests, or to use as an added detail to your corporate event, wedding or fashion show (MBFW is quickly approaching!). The venue also has street access, ideal for automotive use—or any other creative ideas you can think up. What’s more, you get spectacular views of NYC’s High-line from the Mezzanine level of the space.

Featured #Eventprof: Jordana Hazan, Untapped PR Movement

         image

Speaking of Fashion Week, Jordana is an international fashion-savvy PR professional, detailing events for clients such as Nina Ricci and Porche. She specializes in adding unique flair to every event she coordinates, and aims to build relationships and lasting connections with all of her clients. For those of you in NYC next week, you can check out her Holiday Shopping Red Carpet Gala at The Carlton Hotel—another fabulous NYC venue worth scoping out.

For more information about the event and what Jordana offers, visit her page here.

Featured #DIY Event Fun: Party Poppers

image

Add some sparkle and a “pop” of fun to your event with these DIY confetti poppers. They’re easy to make and Wedding Bells blog has conveniently put together the step-by-step instructions to help you make them one-of-a-kind for your next event. Make sure you ask your venue about their clean-up policy!

Feature Friday

Life is love: we’re trying to keep that wholesome vibe going after this week’s Somaly Mam gala hosted at Gotham Hall this past Wednesday. It was an honor to be a part of the registration process and to meet and greet so many people trying to make a difference. The venue itself is breathtaking and was the perfect place to gather everyone together.

We’ve got some new & great finds for this week…

Featured Venue: Offsite

image

We’ve been to a whole bunch of cool and creative events here in the heart of Midtown at Offsite NYC. The thing that’s neat about this venue is it can cater to anything and everything—from heading there just to “unwind” with family and friends to hosting a larger corporate event that covers all three levels. They rearrange furniture, provide the service staff and catering (or fully stocked kitchenettes if you’re hosting a business function), and they even go as far as printing out any important docs you left on your way over. It’s a really unique space that challenges creativity.

Featured #Eventprof: Jenn of Voila!

image

Jenn plans everything from weddings to larger affairs like festivals and corporate events. What grabbed our attention was her specialization in "day-of" coordinating, taking on the responsibility right before the event in order to deal with problems and dilemmas, time management, vendor arrival, and setting up, to name a few.

In other exciting news, she’s going to be sharing her tips, tricks and opinions on the blog, so be on the look out for her posts!

Check out her page here.

Featured DIY EVENT: PaintNite

image

Restaurants are for more than just socializing and eating! Get your crafting on as you sip on a cocktail and share the gift of gab with others at a participating venue near you. You don’t need any experience—they supply everything for you—all you have to do is bring your pals and creativity down to your favorite local hotspot. Get your van Gogh on, it’s a trend that’s sweeping the (creation) nation!

Innovation Nation

Innovation has been the talk of the town, especially after alleynyc's One Year Anniversary Blowout last week. It’s important to always keep re-inventing yourself, putting forth the best you have to offer, and showing off your creativity!

Over on 42nd Street, we tend to recharge around 2pm, yeah, lunchtime. We wanted to dare to be different—try something new, something innovative—and stumbled upon this little gem:

Looks like an intimate setting with great views, no? Problem was it wasn’t located near Midtown, and oh, yeah, this also was a little bit of an issue (for some of us!):

Talk about daring! It’s called a “hanging restaurant" by event group Dinner in the Sky, where up to 22 guests can dine suspended by crane. We wound up with pizza—not so original for a bunch of New Yorkers—but if we may be so bold, we branched out and tasted toppings such as artichoke and crème fraîche.

Another cool and innovative trend is the touchscreen DJ console. Guests at an event can see every scratch swipe of the “turntable" and get a more interactive view of what the DJ does.

Pretty neat, huh?

We ask our fellow foodies, #eventprofs, and daredevils:

What’s the most innovative idea you’ve seen on the food and venue scene in your city?
