8 Business Writing Tips For Event Managers

When you work in event management you need to communicate clearly and effectively. How do event planners do so when it comes to their event marketing? Adapting the best writing techniques.
It’s key to be able to use appropriate language that gets your message across without fault, especially in the event industry. Below are eight tips and techniques that event managers should take on board when it comes to their business writing and communications and overall event branding.
Say “No” to Big Words
Never use a big word when a smaller one will do. Using complicated terms makes your message unclear. Simple, everyday language gets the message across perfectly.
Stay on Topic
When you are communicating via email, make sure that the message is kept short (and sweet). The idea here is to make sure that the email can be read easily, and therefore, get you a response quicker.
Editing
When it comes to editing down what you have written, be strict on yourself. If a word or phrase doesn’t add anything to the point you are making, get rid of it!
Choice of Words
Avoid using “lazy” words that don’t offer much to the point you are trying to get across. For example, “very” doesn’t offer much of an explanation or description. Instead of saying “The venue is very big”, say something similar to: “The venue is almost as tall as the Eiffel Tower.” This sentence is more descriptive and offers a visual comparison of what you are trying to say.
Be Professional
It is key to remain professional communication. For instance, take sending emails for contracts, proposals, or vendor introductions. Sign them with “Kind Regards” or “Best Wishes” and keep exclamation points to a minimum. While it’s okay to use them, they are easily overused and can lose their impact.
Proofread
Before sending any type of message to anyone, you should always proofread for any mistakes. A good proofreading tool to use is ProofreadBot or BoomEssays, which allows you to copy and paste your piece of writing. It will also alert you when and where you’ve made any spelling or grammatical mistakes.
Sentence Structure
Instead of using long-winded sentences, structure them so your main objective is conveyed both simply and quickly. Instead of saying “The company who is going to sponsor registration is ready and willing to connect,” use: “Our registration platform sponsor is ready to connect.“

Don’t Use Similes
Avoid using similes or metaphors in business writing. It’s possible they won’t make much sense to the recipient and create some confusion.
