It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it

As each day passes, we become a more (virtually) social #eventprofs community and society as a whole, and it’s crucial to take a look at not only what’s being said but the sentiment—or emotion—behind it.

Are people delighted? Upset? Irritated? Having knowledge of what’s being said about your brand or service will help you in future product/service development by you an idea of how the current community feels about your brand according to the tone of what’s being said.

Is the conversation around your brand positive or negative? Being informed of the emotion behind what’s being said could help resolve a potential crisis: the unhappy user could easily disperse that negativity around the networks, damaging your reputation and giving the upper hand to the competition.

Besides the fact that there are tons of companies out there who buy and bot-out followers, the number of your following is not important—rather what they’re saying. As event producers, we can’t always see each guest’s reaction face-to-face, and the number of “likes” is great when it comes to viewing our online engagement.

But what does each post or image do for the user? Are they even interested?

Create content that’s social and shareable and measure what the emotional response is before, during, and after the content or event is publicized. You can begin to measure the impact and really change the effectiveness of your product, service or brand.
