How to Plan an Event on a Budget

Even if the event committee or planner has a large budget, it always makes sense to look for ways to save money. Keeping costs low with smart, creative planning involves prioritizing and time. But the payoff will be worth the time in the end.
1. Always plan ahead. Start looking for the things you need at least 3 months before the event. This will allow you to lock in the best deals. Leaving such things to last minute generally leaves no room for negotiation.
2. Make a budget and stick with it. When trying to save money, this is perhaps one of the most important things to keep in mind.
3. Make a checklist and check it twice. Search for things you need and keep track of prices. Always watch out for hidden costs such as additional rental fees, late fees, etc. A great place to start looking for everything you need for your event is: http://fiestah.com - A great tool for finding the things you need for your event.
4. Use resources that are already available to you. This may come in the form of some one allowing you to use their home for an event, or at the local community center. Some other resources that may already be available to you can be such things as: projectors, microphones, and/or other things that vendors or speakers may need during the event.
5. Utilize free social media and networking materials. With so many options available now-a days, its hard to know where to start. A great place to get some exposure for your event is Facebook and Twitter. If using Twitter be sure to include relevant hash-tags with your tweets (this will enable people in your industry to easily see your tweets).
